Credible information reaching *Edo Is Not Lagos Coalition* suggests that the outgoing Governor of Edo State, GODWIN Obaseki is set to sack Dr Joan Osa Oviawe over the latter’s vehement refusal to agree to the Governor’s demand of her to release 1.8 billion naira from the State Universal Basic Education Board’s (SUBEB) account to partly fund his controversial gubernatorial election.
According to reliable informants within the SUBEB management, the SUBEB’s strong woman was asked by the outgoing Governor to withdraw the funds in the name of “Training Edo Teachers” using the EDOBEST format.
Our informants disclosed that the woman is dragging her feet for fear of possible arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), especially if Obaseki didn’t get reelected.
Sources at the SUBEB office in Benin also allege that the said fund was meant for payment of SUBEB’s outstanding obligations to contractors for contracts already awarded.
It was also revealed that other directors within the Board, who don’t subscribe to the choking demands and recent bizarre economic misbehaving of the outgoing governor, have threatened not to append their signatures for the approval.
These factors have put the SUBEB’s strong woman on a hot seat hence her vehement refusal to release the SUBEB funds for the outgoing governor’s re-election bid. This refusal will most likely cost her her position as Chairman.
Meanwhile, sources within the Obaseki campaign has hinted that the woman would be dropped soon for working at cross purposes with the governor. It is alleged by the Obaseki Campaign organization that the SUBEB woman has soft spot for the OPPOSITION candidate hence her taking bold steps to “dare to say no to a sitting governor’s demand”. But an aide of the woman who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said that “The Governor’s demands are not only illicit but immoral demand. Let him take money from his Security vote and not the paltry sums meant to improve education in the state.”
