The Edo state All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged a gun-running plot, led by Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, involving members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, particularly in Akoko-Edo local government area.
Alerting security agencies, the APC Media Campaign Council named others allegedly involved in a violent plot to disrupt and muscle the vote in Akoko-Edo.
It listed the following names, allegedly waiting to arm and deploy imported thugs, from Rivers, Delta and Kogi states: Hon. Kabir Adjoto, Hon. Akin Agbaje, Hon. Peter Ologun, Hon. Fatai Malik and Hon. Jeffrey Obasanmi.
Others allegedly on the list are: Donald Okogbe, Monday Sule, Abiodun (Abifa), Engr. Fred Attah and Bayo Ogedegbe.
Citing “credible security intelligence,” the campaign alleged that guns had been supplied to the named persons for distribution to thugs already waiting to be brought in.
It added that the alleged PDP plot was to “attack polling units where the opposition is strong, destroy ward collation centres in wards where they are losing, and visit a final attack on the LGA collection centre, to ensure there are no results from Akoko-Edo, should they lose the election.”
The campaign claimed the plot was hatched at a security meeting coordinated by Deputy Governor Shaibu and Kabiru Adjoto, a former Speaker of the Edo legislature.
The APC Media campaign council urged the various security agencies to move fast and nip the plot in the bud.
