Christmas Day Tragedy: Seven Killed In Sagamu-Benin Expressway Car Crash

A total of seven persons have died following a car crash at Ososa Bridge along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway on Saturday (Christmas Day).

The accident was said to have occurred at 12:20 am on Christmas day and involved a Mercedes Benz luxury bus.

Confirming the incident, Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, said the accident was caused by excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking and loss of control by the driver.

He added that seven others sustained various degrees of injuries from the accident.

Umar said the unregistered vehicle heading to the eastern part of the country took off from Ojuelegba, Lagos.

He revealed that 63 persons — 40 male adults, 15 female adults and eight children — were on the bus and that 49 of them, including all the children, escaped unhurt.

He added that the injured victims were rendered first aid treatment while the deceased were deposited at State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State.

The Ogun FRSC Sector Commander commiserated with the victims’ families and enjoined them to contact the FRSC Ijebu-Ode unit for more information about the crash.
