Liverpool were left stunned by Brighton as the Reds let a 2-0 lead slip to draw 2-2 with the high-flying Seagulls at Anfield, as Mohamed Salah’s ten-game scoring run came to an end.
The phrase ‘a game of two halves’ could not have been more appropriate to describe the match, with the hosts scoring twice in a dominant first-half but the visitors soaring back after the break to claim a point, although a winner would not have been undeserved.
The Reds raced into a 2-0 lead through Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane but were pegged back just before the half-time break through a stunning wondergoal from Seagulls ace Enock Mwepu.
Brighton stepped it up after the break and were the better side by far in the second half, getting the goal their performance deserved through an ice-cold finish from Leandro Trossard.
Salah had come into this game on the back of a run of 14 goals in his last ten games, but was kept quiet at Anfield. The Egyptian King thought he’d put Liverpool back in front in the second half only to be ruled out for offside.
It wasn’t the only goal ruled out, either, with Mane and Trossard both seeing what would have been their second goals in the game ruled out after VAR checks.
Liverpool remains second with the point, but Chelsea are now three clear at the top of the table after a 2-0 win over Newcastle.
Brighton, meanwhile, are sixth after an impressive start which proved they are Premier League walkovers no longer
