…you are a silent achiever – monarchs

For the first time since the strive for his office began, Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola on Thursday, declared his intention to run for another term in office.

The Governor, who paid an unscheduled visit to the traditional rulers in the state at their monthly state traditional council meeting at the Government Secretariat, said the decision was aimed at consolidating on his success in the first four years in office.

In a statement issued by his Media aide, Ismail Omipidan stated the Governor, urged the monarchs led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi to continue to support his administration to achieve success.

The statement reads partly “I decided to come and visit our fathers when it occurred to me that they will be holding their first meeting today. Also, I was highly impressed by the large presence of traditional rulers at the Inter-religious prayers session that we held two days ago where we had about 60 monarchs in attendance.

This to us shows that they are with us. They own this government and see this government as theirs.

“So, the only thing I can do is to come and visit them by taking the opportunity to meet majority of them here to say a big thank you for being supportive of us in prayers and for playing fatherly roles to us and particularly to inform them that God being on our side, we are still willing to continue to serve them and the good people of the State. It is highly proper to let them know our intention and seek for their blessings,” Oyetola said.

Speaking on behalf of other monarchs, Chairman of the council and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi urged the Governor not to be distracted by political detractors and traducers, urging him to focus on his objectives as the state helmsman and assured him of their blessings as traditional rulers.

“We urge you not to be distracted by political tradusers and detractors. They may be saying a lot. It is for you to remain on track and not allow anything to make you lose track. I personally love you because of your meek character and silent achievements so far.

“On your intention to run for second term, we have prayed for you dutifully. Don’t forget we are not politicians, we are royal fathers. But we like your style. We like what you are doing because you are a man of very few words; yet, you display outstanding performance that we can all see. You carried us along in your plans on what you wants to do.

“As you know, his opposition will come to our palaces, but as for us, Mr. Governor is doing what he is supposed to do and we are very impressed by his performance; so far so good. He is giving us a very good welfare within his confines, and for someone to be doing that, he deserves to be supported and that is what we are doing,” he added.

Some of the traditional rulers in attendance were Orangun of Ila, Oba AbduWahab Oyedokun; Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal; Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi; Olunisa of Inisa, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele; Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarinwa; Owamiran of Esa-Oke, Oba Adeyemi Adediran; Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba Moses Olufemi Agunsoye, among others
