Recall that some weeks ago, a group under the aegis of Highly Respected Igbo Greats, led by First Republic parliamentarian and Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, visited President Buhari at the State house to demand for a presidential pardon on behalf of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
This was followed by oppositions from persons who advised President Buhari not to grant the demand of the Igbo leaders.
On this note, it is my best interest to bring to your notice the words of Nnamdi Kanu in 2016 that could stand as a cogent reason why he shouldn’t be Pardoned as demanded by Igbo leaders.
When Nnamdi Kanu was first arrested and detained in 2016, he overtly vowed that he can never denounce his Biafra agitation for any reason, stressing that he would rather prefer to die than to renounce Biafra and abandon the struggle for its restoration.
“We want to make it categorically clear that MEND and their Ahithophel Team are strictly on their own and do not in any way, shape or form represent IPOB or the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. When we say “Biafra or Death”, we meant every syllable of that phrase, he said.
On this discourse, it is obvious from a clear logical reasoning that Nnamdi Kanu is very obsessed with his Biafra agitation and can never drop his agitations on whatsoever account.
Though Nnamdi Kanu made this statement while he was in the detention center in 2016, he demonstrated his words by promoting his agitation to a higher displeasing level after he was granted bail in 2017. This shows that he will still continue his agitation and even possibly upgrade it to another dangerous level if he gets pardoned this time.
President Buhari should rather allow the law to take its course in Nnamdi Kanu’s case to avoid breaching the doctrine of separation of powers between the Executive and Judiciary.
