The Micro-blogging site, Twitter has reacted to the Federal Government’s decision to lift the ban after over 220 days.
Recall the Nigerian government suspended Twitter’s operations in the country around June 2021, accusing the social media giant of allowing its platform to be used “for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”
In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, the Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement & Director-General National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has lifted the suspension on Twitter operations in the country, effective from 12 am, January 13, 2022.
Kashifu noted that the approval was given following a memo written to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.
In a tweet via its @Policy handle, Twitter wrote: “We are pleased that Twitter has been restored for everyone in Nigeria. Our mission in Nigeria & around the world, is to serve the public conversation.
“We are deeply committed to Nigeria, where Twitter is used by people for commerce, cultural engagement, and civic participation
