Can you sincerely give what you don’t have?
If you answered NO to the above question, why then had we allowed men who had got nothing to offer us lead us as our leaders?
Why had we allowed leaders who are more skilled in words and promises than they are in the art and action of governance to pretend to represent our interests?
Little wonder why the Egor and Ikpoba-Okha nation had not experienced the type of developmental strides that match the yearnings and aspirations of its good people.
Going forward, it is the right time to ensure that anyone who aspires to occupy any leadership position in our land, has the following attributes:
Compassion: He must be one who feels and understands the needs of his people and feels obliged and take it as a mandate or duty to strive towards meeting those needs.
Empathy: He must be one who puts himself in the shoes of his people and truly feels their pains and what they go through on a daily basis. He must put the people first before himself and family.
Operates an Open Door Style of Leadership: We need a leader whose doors and ears are always opened to interact and listen to his people.
Grow his people: We need a leader who goes the extra mile to build structures that will empower his people and enable them to experience growth in every facet of their lives.
In our brother, Hon Pius Alile, we have seen these qualities and many more, and that explains why we have made our shoulders available and accessible to him and by God’s grace, we will not rest until he sits among our next crop of leaders so that Egor and Ikpoba-Okha people would directly feel the gains and benefits of effective and efficient representation and governance.
