Group Drags Delta Govt To Court, Says Okowa’s Loans Spree Must Be Stopped

Recall that on the 26th of April, 2022, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) populated Delta State House of Assembly hurriedly pulled a fast one and approved a loan of N150 Billion Naira for Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, without following due process of a public hearing, rubber stamped a loan to be facilitated through Zenith Bank.

Immediately, there was an outcry from Deltans, which necessitated the urgent need to stop this Bank bridging facilitated loans and its uncleared intended usage.

After series of meetings, we the CONCERNED CITIZENS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE decided to nip this obvious sleaze in the bud by taking this urgent steps to draw public attention to it. The President, Amb. Jonathan Obukowho Siovworho on behalf of the group believes that it is high time we put a stop to these unnecessary and unwholesome borrows which are not in the interest of Deltans.

A case was filed at the Federal High Court with Suit Nos. FHC/WR/05/41/2022 to challenge these illegalities of the State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. The case was filed on the 14th of June, 2022 and on the same day, word came out that the duo of State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori have performed another miracle worth N25 Billion Naira. Rest assured that this will be included in the existing action for stoppage.

We the Concerned Citizens For Good Governance will hold a press conference soon for the public. We shall stop at nothing to arresting these illegalities of borrowings forthwith. The case which came up today for mention stands adjourned to 13th July 2022.

It is just 10 months to the end of this administration of Governor Okowa, so why all this sudden rush for borrowings, rubber stamped by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly?

Signed:
On behalf of;
Concerned Citizens For Good Governance.
Amb. Jonathan Obukowho Siovworho
