JUST IN: Labour Party Calls For Election Postponement

Following the death of its candidate, Oyibo Chukwu, the Labour Party has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the election in Enugu East Senatorial District.

Mr Chukwu and his personal assistant were murdered on Wednesday by unidentified gunmen.

In response to the shocking news, the Labour Party’s National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, said in a statement that the postponement is necessary so that the party can hold new primaries and participate in the election.

According to Abure, Enugu state is one of the states where the party has the most support, and the LP candidate is on track to win the Enugu East senatorial seat in this election.

He urged INEC not to allow people to benefit or win elections through other means, particularly by silencing a popular candidate
