Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described Lagos as being on a steady developmental pace as he promised that his administration would continue to deliver quality governance for residents.
Sanwo-Olu spoke on Sunday, September 24, during the interdenominational service to mark Nigeria’s 63rd independence, with the theme ‘Love, Peace and Unity’.
The service was held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa.
The governor, who was represented by secretary to the state government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyi, said the 63rd independence anniversary provides an avenue to celebrate the progress so far made in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
According to him, though Nigeria is yet to fully achieve the hope and aspirations of its founding fathers, the pace of development witnessed in recent times however portends greater hope of tomorrow for the people, he noted.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who sought prayers in his second term, urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to harnessing the natural resources that abound in the country to create a better society for future generations.
He also hailed Lagosians for their trust in his administration’s strides and also sought their cooperation on realising the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda for a greater Lagos.
Commissioner for Home Affairs Ibrahim Layode promised that the government will ensure citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy through various people-oriented initiatives in line with the ministry’s mandate.
Overseer of Grace Assembly, Alagbado, Rev. Michael Oni, who was the guest minister, underscored the indispensability of love, unity, and peace in attaining the greater Lagos vision. He said love must be built on a firm foundation, unity erected on solid pillars, and peace surrounded by strong walls.
Oni admonished Lagosians and Nigerians to shun practices and activities that frustrate the growth and sustainability of love, peace, and unity.
