The Edo State Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, is set to partner with the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency for the upcoming measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign, scheduled for January 2026. The collaboration highlights the ministry and the Agency’s commitment to ensuring the health and wellbeing of children in Edo State, recognizing that healthy children are better positioned to succeed in school.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, disclosed this while receiving delegates from the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and its partners led by the Director of Disease Control and Immunization, Dr. Eseigbe Efeomon. He assured them of the ministry’s full support and emphasized that the government of Senator Monday Okpebholo is committed to initiatives that protect the health of Edo children. He also noted the critical role of schools and teachers in helping reach children across both urban and rural communities.
Earlier, the Director of Disease Control and Immunization, Dr. Eseigbe Efeomon, briefed the commissioner on the campaign. He explained that the vaccination will target children aged 9 months to 14 years and stressed the importance of immunization in preventing measles and rubella outbreaks, reducing childhood morbidity, and ultimately protecting the broader community from vaccine-preventable diseases.
He also outlined strategies for public awareness, parental engagement, and community mobilization, emphasizing the pivotal role of the ministry in sensitizing parents and ensuring that all eligible children are reached to guarantee the success of the campaign.
The Ministry of Education, together with its partners, will work to mobilize schools, teachers, and parents to ensure maximum vaccination coverage across the state. The campaign is expected to strengthen public health efforts and provide Edo children with critical protection against preventable diseases.
