The Ogun State Police Command says it thwarted a kidnap operation, killed two of the kidnappers and recovered their arms and ammunition in the Owode Egba local government area of the state.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tiyamiyu Rasheed, he received information on Saturday, August 21 that some armed men numbering about six were seen in Bere forest at Onigari/Alapako area in Ogunmakin area of the state.
The DSP said he immediately contacted all tactical teams along that route to join in squashing the armed men’s operation.
The teams swung into action and on sighting the policemen in the forest, the kidnappers opened fire on them just as the policemen returned fire on the kidnappers.
One of the kidnappers was shot down while others escaped with bullet wounds.
The kidnapper shot down, was garbed in a military cardigan. He identified himself as Mohammed Abdullah before giving up the ghost. Another who didn’t reveal his identity was equally killed in the operation. Their corpses were later deposited at Ijaye general hospital, Abeokuta.
The DSP also led patrol teams to the scene of the incidence where two AK47, one rifle with serial number 1983nf1040 and another with serial number 1987-3-ca-1212 as well as five rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the forest.
During a search of the corpses, a sachet of tramadol drug, a wrist watch and some powders suspected to be charm were recovered.
