A new militia group that identified themselves as ‘Biafra Motherland Warrior’ have attacked and killed some officers of the National Civil Defence and Security Commission (NSCDC) in Umeleri, Anambra state.
The gruesome attack and murder of the officers were captured on a video that was allegedly filmed by members of the militia as they carried out the attack.
In the video which was released by Daily Times Nigeria today, Monday 30th August, the unknown gunmen ambushed the officers as they were by the side of the road in their van.
The gunmen came out of their vehicle, a Toyota Sienna minivan, and shot directly at the officers who on sighting the men took to their heels in various directions.
As can be seen from the video, the gunmen chased after the officers, killing at least two despite the obvious appeal from one of the officers who pleaded with them to spare his life in Igbo dialect.
The gunmen who continually identified themselves as the Biafra Motherland Warrior throughout the video made away with the uniforms and ammunitions of the slain officers.
They also set ablaze the van of the NSCDC before getting in their vehicle and driving away from the scene of the attack.
It is yet unclear who this group is, their reasons for attacking the officers and if they have any affiliation with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) or any other armed groups in the southeast of the country.
