Edo police command has arrested three men suspected to be kidnappers in the metropolis.
During the investigation, police discovered that the suspects were also supplying ammunition to suspected bandits terrorizing the Benin Bypass and Auchi road in Edo State.
The suspects are Bright Emumwen, Evans Osariemen and Chukwudi Anyanwu.
Standard Gazette gathered that two of the suspects, Bright and Evans, had perfected a plan to abduct a pensioner in Okpagha area in Benin city.
The move, SG gathered, was to demand ransom from the children residing abroad.
“One of the suspects is a resident of the area”; a police source told Standard Gazette.
Bright and Evans later met with Chukwudi, who sold gun cartridges to them to carry out the abduction.
Local vigilante and the police received a tip from a concerned resident leading to their apprehension.
Officers laid ambushed and arrested the three suspects, including Bright, who had offered to use his motorcycle for the operation.
Bright named Chukwudi and Evans as his accomplices leading to their arrest.
Standard Gazette gathered through the police that the suspects also supply guns and cartridges to bandits who have been operating in Benin Bypass and Auchi road, where several travellers and residents have been abducted.
Chukwudi agreed to sell bullets to his accomplices, saying, “Yes, I sold gun bullets to him. He told me that he want to use them for community fights and never told me he is a kidnapper. I am even shocked that he is a kidnapper”.
Another suspect Bright Emumwen told newsmen that “I was trying to raise money to attend to some issues and wanted a big man who has money to kidnap.
“I was told that the children of the man would pay big money if we kidnapped him. That was why I told my friend to show me his house. I was in prison for seven months over stealing. I regret now”.
The Edo state public Relations officer, SP Bello Kontongs, said that the commissioner of Police, CP Philip Ogbadu, has directed that the three suspects be charged to court immediately.
