As the Government of Edo State led by Governor Godwin Obaseki continues to fail in bringing development and other dividends of democracy to Edo people especially in the rural areas choosing instead to continue propaganda governance through social and conventional media, communities have resorted to self help.

Oligie Community in Igbanke town of Orhionmwon Local Government Area is one of the communities in this league whose dilapidated school structures were taken over by black mamba snakes of cobra family.

Eye witness says pupils virtually escaped death when the daring black mambas emerged in their classrooms during class lecture hours prompting the pupils to run for their dear life. The youths and vigilantes of the communities however flung into action killing ten of the snakes.

Efforts to attract government attention to renovate the dilapidated structures in the school have proved abortive since the roofs and other structures failed in 2017 leaving the pupils with no option than to learn in the dilapidated structure.

A group in the community Oligie Development Forum Worldwide have however pooled together monetary donations and renovated as well as sanitized the school environment in few weeks to provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils and save their lives.

Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Orhionmwon LG Chapter Prince Lucky Igbinedion while commenting on the incidence said it was strange that Edo State Government have failed to utilise the billions of naira 65% Universal Basic Education counter part fund which the Federal Government of Nigeria have continued to meet full obligations to the state since 2016. The APC scribe said the only developmental efforts the Government of Obaseki has instituted in Igbanke since 2016 was to repaint and change the windows of Ake Primary School Igbanke.
