A few days ago President Buhari through his official media aide, Garba Shehu warned party leaders and members of the APC to desist from “name-calling and backstabbing”.
According to His Excellency, what was the point of dragging each other to the mud when the main battle is still ahead which is the coming general elections?
Baba said, “But parties splintered by competing egos destine themselves to the worst possible fate.”
Preaching unity the President called on contending forces towards the national chairmanship position to mellow down attacks on each other for the sake of a united and indivisible party.
However, Buhari’s admonition seems to have fallen on deaf ears as the two major political camps in Nassarawa State in support of Senator Al-Makura and Sen Abdullahi Adamu have continued to drag themselves shamefully in the public glare.
The narrowing down of the National Chairmanship seat to the North Central has further aggravated their distaste towards one another.
The first shot fired was from the camp of Senator Al-Makura who directly accused Senator Abdullahi Adamu of reaping where he did not sow. They claim he bumped into the national chairmanship race a few weeks to the election and did so with huge confusion with the intent of tearing the party apart.
Our sources insist Abdullahi has always been a “confusionist” with a strong conservative view that can never be parallel with the visions of a progressive party like the APC.
” We have continued to watch with anger the way Senator Abdullahi has taken his aspiration of becoming the next APC national party chairman by mischievously plotting the downfall of others.
His deliberate attempt to muscle others into submission is what is nauseating about his aspiration, before his entrance into the race we have enjoyed a sense of comradeship amongst each contending aspirant that has been on the field for well over a year.
But alas he jumped in a few weeks ago and wants to bring the roof down, Abdullahi that we know is always at crossroads with the party.
We know his plans in frustrating the presidential zoning formula, a core Ethnic proponent who has sworn that power would remain in the North as long as he lives. Can that be said to be a democrat who wishes to lead a party as big as the APC?
When our reporters contacted our sources at Abdullahi’s camp it was a different narrative entirely.
Querying party loyalty and credibility as alerted by Al-Makura’s camp, our source at Senator Abdullahi’s camp screamed at who is crying wolf.
“Imagine the nonsense talk of party loyalty, have we forgotten how Tanko Al-Makura as the CPC candidate of Nassarawa State sold out his presidential candidate, in the person of General Buhari for the PDP? In two consecutive terms, maybe we should go back to history and compare and contrast who is a more loyal party member between Al-Makura and Abdullahi.
2011 general elections, Al-Makura scored 324,823 votes to defeat PDP’s Aliyu Akwe Doma who gathered 320,399 votes, in the presidential election which was held the same day Buhari lost to President Goodluck Jonathan.
Again in the 2015 general elections, Al-Makura got a second term in office under the All Progressives Congress (APC) having polled 309,746 votes to defeat the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA’s Labaran Maku who had 273,460 votes.
Baba lost again at the presidential polls, imagine as a sitting governor his presidential candidate lost, just because he sold out.
So what now happened when Baba won in the 2019 elections? Engr. A. A Sule of APC was voted in as governor, defeating Labaran Maku of APGA and for the first time, Buhari won in the presidential election in Nassarawa State defeating Atiku.
So when we talk of who are the party betrayals we know them, it is only unfortunate that we are in an era of lack of party discipline if not Al-Makura is not worthy of seeking any position in the APC” he concluded.
Would the APC implode because of the ambition of two ex-governors? What legacy would be left behind by Buhari as regards the kind of party leadership he met and left behind?
APC stakeholders and members have however vowed to look into the worrisome development especially as it regards the credibility status hovering around the two aspirants with a view to accepting more credible alternatives.
Only recently some Nassarawa stakeholders denounced the aspiration of both former Governors of the State describing both of them as 5 and 6 when it comes to integrity rating.
“The case of both former Nassarawa State Governors is the case of the same Snake that bite Al-Makura and uses its tail to flog Abdullahi. The APC has alternative aspirants we are tired of their constant rants that have sold the party negatively in the eyes of Nigerians, Are they the only contestants?
Be rest assured that APC members would make our nation proud by producing a national chairman that is Stainless and Faultless”
