BREAKING: Kano Election Petition Tribunal Upholds Senator Rufa’i Hanga’s Victory

The National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kano has upheld the election of Senator Rufa’i Hanga as the representative of the Kano Central Senatorial District.

The tribunal delivered its verdict on Monday, dismissing the challenge brought by Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Zaura had contested the February 25, 2023 senatorial election, challenging the declaration of Hanga from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the winner.

He claimed that the election was marred by irregularities, malpractices, and violations of the Electoral Act.

However, the tribunal, led by Justice I.P Chima, ruled in favor of Hanga and the other respondents, stating that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient evidence of non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.

The petition was dismissed, and Zaura was ordered to pay a cost of N300,000 to the NNPP and the other respondents.
