The Labour Party candidate in the just concluded House of Representatives election for Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency, Hon. Dominic Aqua, has withdrawn his petition earlier filed against Rt. Hon Joseph Bassey at the Election Petition Tribunal in Calabar.
The withdrawal notice was read at the tribunal sitting in Calabar.
In the February 25 National Assembly election, the candidate of the APC, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, scored a total of 23,885 votes to emerge winner of the polls, while the candidate of Labour Party, Mr Dominic Aqua, came second with 16,448 votes.
His withdrawal from the tribunal shows the spirit of sportsmanship and the firm believe in the capacity of Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey in delivering and attracting the much needed development to the Federal Constituency.
While thanking Hon. Aqua for withdrawing the case from the tribunal, the Reps member-elect assured him of his commitment and desire towards carrying everyone along and working with all the candidates for the good of the constituency.
The Reps member-elect said that Hon. Aqua has proven that the development and growth of the Federal Constituency is paramount.
Hon. Bassey also thanked members of his constituency for the trust and mandate given to him to represent them at the Green Chambers, thereby assuring them of quality and effective representation for the good of the constituency.
