Chief Madu Obi, the sponsor of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Cup, has congratulated President-elect Bola Tinubu while urging him to consider sports as a means of youth development.
Obi said in a statement yesterday that sport is a powerful tool for developing the country’s youth, and that talented children can improve their lives by participating in sports and earning a lot of money.
He stated that Nigeria has the potential to turn sports into multi-billion dollar enterprises from which many people, including youths, coaches, and other stakeholders, can benefit.
He said: “I congratulate our President-elect for his victory at the polls. However, the focus for him is to develop the youths and I am sure sports are one of the avenues to do that. Tinubu must also know that the sports sector can become a huge money spinner where a lot of people can be employed.
“I am sure that the exploits of the like of Victor Osimhen who is the leading scorer in Serie A has caught the attention of the world but he started his career in Nigeria. I also know that there are many more like him in the country.
“All they need is support and the enabling environment to thrive,” he added.
He also urged Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to continue his massive strides in the development of sports facilities so that talented young people in the state can train and hone their skills.
Obi, who also sponsors the annual Ramadan Cup, which features teams from Lagos and Ogun states, urged football fans to turn out in force in Igando and Igbesa, where the competition kicks off this weekend, while thanking Cardinal James Odunmbaku for his unwavering support for the tournament.
In games slated for the weekend, Great Feet will take on Pacos FC, Sterling FC will battle Royyan FC, while Future Star Feeders and Kay properties FC lock horns in the last game
