Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved a ₦250 million monthly subvention for Edo State University, Iyamho, marking another major milestone in his administration’s commitment to revitalising tertiary education in the state.
The approval comes just a few months after the Governor increased the monthly subvention of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, from ₦41 million to ₦500 million, a bold intervention that has significantly eased the financial burden on the institution and improved its operational capacity.
These strategic funding decisions signal a new dawn for tertiary institutions in Edo State, creating expanded opportunities for academic research, innovation, improved staff welfare, and long-term financial stability.
The increased subventions are also expected to enhance access to quality higher education for students, while strengthening institutional governance and service delivery.
the commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu described the moves as timely and transformative, noting that sustained funding is critical to repositioning universities as centres of excellence capable of competing nationally and globally.
