The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin has upheld the Victory of Hon. Chief Billy Osawaru as the duly elected on February 25th and April 15th, 2023.
In a unanimous judgment, the three-member panel of judges led by Hon. Justice Yusuf Gbadejo, the tribunal struck out the petition and declared that the petitioner had no locus standing to file the petition as he was never the candidate of the Labour Party and he didn’t participate in all stages of the election. The tribunal described him as a meddlesome interloper and struck out the case for lack of merit.
The tribunal also affirmed that the election complied substantially with the electoral laws and constitution and that Hon. Billy Osawaru scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, thereby affirmed his victory.
