Building Collapse Kills One, Injures Three In Rivers

A building collapse at the Woji axis of Port Harcourt in Rivers State has claimed the life of one person while three others sustained injuries, Daily Trust is reporting.

It was gathered that the incident occurred in the late hours of Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021.

One of the victims, who survived the incident, blamed the collapse on Tuesday’s torrential rain which he said affected the foundation of the building which was still under construction.

The victim said one person lost his life in the incident while three others sustained various degrees of injuries.

In his words, “The Tuesday torrential rain which affected the foundation of the building was responsible for the building collapsed.

“The rain was very severe and flood had already eaten deep into the foundation of the building.

“At that point, some of the workers were on the ground making an effort to put reinforcement on the foundation.

“The pillars of the building started caving in and the entire structures collapsed.

“One person died in the incident while three other persons that sustained injuries were evacuated to a hospital.”

The RiverState Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni is yet to comment on the incident.

This will be the second collapse claiming a life this week. It can be recalled that on Tuesday, September 21st, a building collapse in Ondo state claimed the life of a woman.
