A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, has joined millions of Christians across Nigeria and the world in celebrating Christmas, extending heartfelt goodwill messages and calling on the faithful to embrace love, unity, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence.
In his Christmas message, Dr. Umakhihe described the season as one of the most significant periods in the Christian faith—symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ, who came as a beacon of hope, sacrifice, and unconditional love for humanity. He stressed that Christmas is not only a moment of celebration but also a profound reminder of the values that bind societies together.
He encouraged Christians to reflect deeply on the teachings of Christ, especially His message of forgiveness.
“The essence of Christmas is rooted in love, humility, and reconciliation. In the spirit of this holy season, let us forgive one another, strengthen the bonds that hold our families and communities together, and spread kindness wherever we go,” he said.
Dr. Umakhihe also emphasized that Nigeria—particularly Edo State—stands to gain immensely when its people choose unity over division and peace over conflict. According to him, no society can progress without mutual respect, understanding, and a shared vision for the common good.
“Our state and nation need collective effort to thrive. Christmas provides an opportunity for us to set aside differences, heal old wounds, and reaffirm our commitment to peaceful coexistence,” he added.
He commended Christian leaders, community heads, youth groups, and civil society organizations for their contributions toward sustaining peace across Edo State, noting that the APC remains committed to working for the welfare and progress of the people.
Dr. Umakhihe urged families to use the Christmas season to reach out to the underprivileged, share love with neighbors, and cultivate an atmosphere of generosity that reflects the spirit of Christ. He expressed confidence that the coming year would bring renewed hope, growth, and greater unity to Edo State.
He concluded by wishing all Christian faithful a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, praying that the season brings God’s blessings, protection, and joy to every household.
