Ahead of 2024 Edo governorship election, the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba Ewuare the second has advised traditional rulers to stay away from party politics and focus more on their traditional roles and duties.
According to the monarch, active politics by traditional rulers could cause devastating effects on traditional stools across the state
Oba Ewuare gave the advise when the Onogie of Uromi, HRH Anslem Aidenojie led top Edo Central traditional rulers and leaders of thought to his palace in Benin City.
The royal father explained that though everyone is a political animal by nature, it still was not ideal for traditional rulers to take centre stage in politics.
While promising to look into the request brought by Esan traditional rulers to support Edo Central candidates for the 2024 guber election, the monarch maintained that traditional rulers are to uphold the traditional, spiritual and cultural sanctity of their various domains.
Earlier, the Edo Central traditional rulers led by HRH Anslem Aidenojie the Onojie of Uromi told the monarch that they were at his palace to seek his support for Edo Central candidates for the 2024 Edo guber election.
The top Esan traditional ruler while lauding the fatherly roles of the monarch stressed that Oba Ewuare’s mark since ascending the throne of his forebears speaks volume.
