Edo: No MOU With You, No Cabinet – Obaseki Tells PDP Leaders

The crisis rocking Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been worsened by the recent meeting held in government house few days with party Leaders and the Governor.

A source who pleaded anonymity told AfemaiReporters that the Governor had told the leadership of PDP in the state that if the party didn’t sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be in control of the party, he won’t form his cabinet or even if he did it would be without the old PDP Members.

AfemaiReporters recalls that the crisis in the state chapter of the party started when Governor Obaseki and Deputy, Philip Shaibu demanded the structure of the party executives at all level and urged the National leadership to dissolve the party’s executives to enable them bring his men. The decision didn’t go well with the party. Recall that some Leaders took the party to court to stop the national leadership from dissolving the party executives duly elected at the last Congress

Governor Obaseki had gone to negotiate with some Abuja based politicians like the former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe and co thinking they were in control of the party structure in the state.

It was later that he discovered that those Abuja based politicians are not on ground and Chief Mike Ogiadomhe lost his ward during the last Governorship Election to APC, the source added.

Also the source said two weeks ago there was another crisis within the party where Edo North Elders council led by Ogiadomhe held a meeting in Benin because of fear of attacks by aggrieved members in Afemailand. In their meeting, the so-called Elders Council agreed that the structure of the party will be shared 55% for PDP and 45% APC. But because Philip Shaibu is still power hungry he said he wants the three Etsako Wards and LGA Chairmen to come from him while the two Owan and Akoko Edo can come from PDP Because he feels Etsako is place to grab power. A move seen as a clear move against Chief Dan Orbih.

However, some members in Edo North fought against the Elders Council which resulted to the State Chairman, Hon Tony Aziegbemi to issue a press release which says that Edo North Elders Council is illegal and not recognized by the Constitution of the party.

The source Further revealed that all the political intrigue going on in the party is as a result of Governor Obaseki trying to take the structure of the party by all means and the governor should not forget that he came to the party through waiver. Another reason is the inordinate ambition of the Deputy Governor towards 2024 to succeed his boss as Governor.

The source maintained that the existing structure of the party cannot be tempered with and all ongoing attempts would be futile.
