All is now set for the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo state council, election into the various executive positions, billed to hold this Friday, 17 December, 2021.
The National Electoral Committee assigned for the smooth conduct of the election arrived in Benin city, the state capital, on Thursday, in readiness to conduct the election. All accredited Journalists in the state are expected to assemble at the Edo NUJ Press center, Benin city, where the election is holding.

Eleven candidates who were successfully screened by the Peace Ifidon led Electoral Committee, are contesting the election and have vigorously campaigned to win supporters and endorsement by chapels. One of the recent endorsement witnessed before the close of the campaign is that of the ITV/Radio chapel coming out to endorse one of the chairmanship candidate, Comrade Festus Alenkhe.
For the position of the chairman, it’s between Comrade Festus Alenkhe and Comrade Titus Akhigbe, while the position of the vice chairman is unopposed with only Comrade Imelda Osayande, vying for it.
The position of the secretary is contested by three candidates, namely, Comrade Andy Egbon, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, and Comrade Osaretin Emokpae. While candidates for the assistant secretary are, Comrade Kingsley Abavo and Comrade Edo Omoregie Elvis.
Other positions left is that of the Treasurer and the auditor who is unopposed. Two candidates are contesting for the position of the Treasurer in the election, they are, Comrade Obozunya Solomon and comrade Lucky Isibor, who is the incumbent. The unopposed candidates for the position of the auditor is, Comrade Paul Iduoze.
The election is expected to hold at the Edo Nuj secretariat, in Benin and it will commence by 8am and culminates by 6pm while the results should have been announced by then.
