A former Publicity Secretary of the People Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State and ex South south PDP Executive Officer, Prince Francis Omo-Osunde Iyasere has called on the members of People’s Democratic Party in Edo State to sheat their sword, come together and iron out their differences.
Iyasere made this call in Benin City, Edo State on Sunday, while talking with journalists. According to him, there is no need for
this letter writings being witnessed in the Party now.
He said the best thing is for leaders to meet and resolve their differences, rather than wash their dirty linen in the public.
“This ugly development is totally uncalled for and cannot be reasonably or said to be the best way to getting the best result. It is my considered opinion that what could have taken just a meeting of basically all major stakeholders to resolve, ended up in the hand of few leaders allegedly instigating the two seeming blocs into this unholy and shameless fight, which our opponents are now capitalising on, to speak all manner of unprintable words against us.
“This is totally unacceptable, unwise, and an avenue created for our opponents to laugh at us as a Party. I have constantly reminded, who cares to listen that PDP Constitution provides for a mid-term Congress where changes could be made, particularly with those, due to death or incapacitation can no longer perform the function of their offices, those appointed to other offices such as government appointees, old age and others could be replaced democratically.
“If there is such window in our constitution, why whipping unnecessary sentiment and creating undue avenue for opponents to use as a basis to get at us with easy. Let us as from today reason and allow the interest of our dear Party to be uppermost in our minds and our self-interest diminished in all actions.” He said
Recall that the underneath crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State came to the public May11,2021 as the State Working Committee led by chairman of the party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, wrote National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, accusing the Edo state deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Secretary to the government, Osarodion Ogie and other 2023/24 political aspirants of deceiving Obaseki.
The protest letter signed by chairman of the party in the state, Tony Aziegbemi, and secretary, Hillary Otsu, respectively, after an ’emergency and expanded state working Committee meeting’ said if the Governor wants to harmonize the party in the state as he claimed, it must start from his office, just as they called for the replacement of his deputy, Philip Shaibu and Secretary to the State Governor, SSG, Osarodion Ogie with old PDP members.
Trouble started when Obaseki allegedly held a meeting with three old members of the PDP in the state namely: Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, Chief Tom Ikimi and Chief Mike Oghiadomhe where he (Governor) allegedly proposed dissolution of the state excos.
The protest letter which said convening such a meeting was aimed at “ambushing state chairman of the party whom it said was constitutionally empowered to host such meeting,” reiterated that “dissolution of executive committees in Edo State is uncalled for now.”
