Pastor Dan Osato Osamwonyi abducted in May still missing, family expresses concern

A pastor, Dan Osato Osamwonyi, abducted in May, is still missing.

Osamwonyi of prayer City Region 66, Mountain of Fire Ministry, Benin city, was abducted on May 25, 2021.

Standard Gazette learned that the police have been ransacking every nooks and cranny to return him home to his family, but to no avail.

SG crime correspondent, Festus Alenkhe who has been following the matter, gathered that Pastor Osamwonyi was abducted on his way to a private function somewhere in Benin.

The kidnappers trailed and forced him out of his pathfinder jeep into a waiting car, leaving his vehicle along Sapele road.

The pathfinder was later recovered by men from the New Etete Police Division in Benin city.

A few hours after the pastor was kidnapped, he sent a disturbing text message to his wife.

The message reads, “They have kidnapped me, I begged them, and they gave me only one favour to send this message to my wife.y

“They said they are hired killers sent by Mr Robert Ukpong, our former men’s leader, to kill me.

“They have a gun, but they will use a razor blade to kill me and drop me inside the bush.

“They put my car along with Sapele Road near-total Filling Station.

“Goodbye forever. God bless you for all you suffered for me in Jesus name. God will bless my children in Jesus name.”

In addition, SG also obtained an additional message the victim sent to his wife.

“Do not do any burial for me if you cannot find my body. Tell Pastor Felix Otsasowie I am sory.”

Following the message, the case was transferred from New Ettete to the Office of the Anti-kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit of the Edo State command for further investigation.

Standard Gazette gathered that the police arrested the alleged contractor, Mr Robert Ukpong and charged him for kidnapping.

The case is currently before a Benin High Court in Edo State.

However, since May 25, 2021, the whereabouts of Pastor Dan Osamwonyi remains unknown.

His whereabouts are posing severe concerns to the family and church members.

The wife and some church members were spotted in the Headquarters of the Edo state police command in Benin city, requesting the police to help rescue their benefactor unhurt.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs, said the police is aware of the case but did not speak further.
