Edo: Shot Robbery Victim Held Down Suspect, Scream For Help

A 32-year-old armed robbery suspect has been arrested by men of the Edo state police command.

The suspect who shot his victim was arrested at the scene of the crime in Benin city.

On the 28 of January 2021, this suspect and his cohort now at large went to Egbaen quarters in Upper Siluko Road in Benin city and snatched a motorcycle at gunpoint.

According to Standard Gazette crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe gathered from the police and the suspect that the motorcycle was to be used for an alleged armed robbery operation in the area.

The suspect, Innocent Aghimien and his escapee cohort armed with a locally made cut to size gun stopped a commercial motorcyclist at Egor junction and asked to be taken to Egbaen quarters in Benin city.

Standard Gazette gathered that the armed men brought out their guns during the journey and attempted to snatch the owner’s motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was shot after he put up a fight to protect his livelihood. In so much pain and blood gushing over his body, the dying victim held down his attacker before raising the alarm.

During the ensuing struggle, a police patrol team and the vigilante members in the locality stormed the area and arrested the suspect while the second hoodlum escaped with the bike.

The victims said “I just bought the motorcycle on a higher purchase agreement and was ready to die instead of them to snatch the motorcycle and go free.

“I am happy that one of the suspects that shot me was arrested.”

“The police should prosecute him as l am ready to appear in court”.

In an interview, the suspect, Innocent Aghimien, said ” My friend who escaped from the scene lured me from Ekpoma for the armed robbery operation.

“The move was to make money to settle some disturbing domestic matters”.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor said, there will be no hiding place for criminals to operate in Edo as they will be continually flushed out.

The victim is currently at an undisclosed hospital where he is receiving medical attention.

Items recovered from the suspect include one locally-made gun, one live cartridge, one expended cartridge and two mobile phones.
