Edo South APC Candidate, Asuen Appeals To FG To Hearkens To The Yearnings And Demands Of ASUU

The Edo South Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon Valentine Owamagbe Asuen has added his Voice to the rising appeal to the Federal government led by President Muhammad Buhari to find a lasting solution to the lingering strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), None Academic Staff Union(NASU), Senior staff Union of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and National association of academic Technologist (NAAT) that has shutdown our public Universities since February 14th, 2022.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the Edo South Senatorial incoming lamented the damage the unending and frequent strike actions by Universities unions is having on the tertiary education sector and the negative effects on the quality of graduates produced by these poorly funded Universities with infrastructures that has practically collapsed. He appealed to the Government to be responsive to the needs of the striking lecturers and get our children back to school.

“The negative effects this strike actions is having on our educational system, on the lecturers, on parents/guardians and on small scales businesses around our campuses can’t be quantified. We can’t keep calm and watch our young ones idle away and continues to be exposed to Social vices occasioned by idleness due to the prolonged strike action” He said.

He concluded by commending the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for the peaceful solidarity rally across the Nation to drum home support for the striking teachers and pressure Government to honour the subsisting agreement. He also appealed to the striking Unions to be willing to shift and find a middle ground towards securing a lasting solution to the spate of strikes actions thereby solving the lingering impasse for the benefit of our children.
