Many years ago, the entire region that makes up the present day Edo was at the forefront of modern civilization such that the white men were in awe when they had contact with us. But the attributes that made us the Heartbeat of our nation had receded in the past years, no thanks to losing our voices to those who had no right to lord over us.
We sold our identity and allowed others to dictate to us that which was our exclusive preserved right. Shall we continue like this?
Now we have to rediscover ourselves and preserve our true identity – ads a people who live for one another and whose leaders are always after the welfare and the common good of all.
We have to put a stop to a few who align with strange bedfellows to unleash untold hardships on our people. Now is the time to redeem ourselves and build an egalitarian society for ourselves and our future generation.

At the stroke of the political drama and struggle that has continued to eat deep on our nation, when others sleeps, the good people of Edo South will awake to life, freedom and prosperity.
A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds its voice again – to speak and uphold truth.
And that moment is now.
It is fitting that at this solemn moment of our history, to have a leader in the person of Hon Valentine Asuen, a man who never shy away from taking the burden of his people upon himself, pledging and dedicating himself to the service of Benin, her good people and to humanity in general.
