The Edo State Government has said it will embrace green technology initiatives in promoting environmentally sustainable development and reducing environmental impact, particularly in supporting agricultural development across the eighteen Local Government Areas in the State.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, disclosed this while receiving the producers of Lithium Battery-Powered Motorcycles, EV Machine Tools Nigeria Limited, at his office in Benin City, who were looking to explore a potential partnership with the Edo State Government.
The Commissioner stressed that the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, strongly believes the State should become the next destination for both international and local investors.
He commended the initiative, stating that the introduction of green technology would significantly improve transportation, particularly in supporting agricultural development across the state.
He further highlighted the importance of embracing green technology, including their economic benefits to the environment, job creation potential, promotion of sustainable farming practices, and capacity to assist farmers in moving produce from one location to another, strengthening food security in the state.
According to him, the State and Local Governments are committed to creating an enabling environment and providing space for the company to commence production and sales of the EV Motorbikes if made available at affordable rates for the people of Edo State.
The Spokesperson, EV Machine Tools Nigeria Limited, Mr. Afolabi Kayode, outlined key benefits of the Electric Motorcycle. He stated that the company, based in Shagamu, Ogun State, was in Edo to demonstrate the functionality of the machine.
He further explained that the Electric Motorcycle does not use fuel or engine oil but operates entirely on a lithium battery. Once fully charged, the bike can travel up to 100 kilometers before requiring another charge, making it environmentally friendly and producing zero noise.
The highlight of the meeting was a demonstration by the company, showcasing the unique features of the eco-friendly Electric Motorcycle, riding it around the Edo State Secretariat premises.
