As governor-elect Prof. Charles Soludo prepares to take over the mantle of leadership in Anambra State on March 17, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, has said expectations are high from him.
He said yesterday that the outgoing governor, Chief Willie Obiano, had set a high standard, adding that the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) should maintain and improve on the standard.
Ezeokafor said the trust and confidence reposed in the party by the electorate should not be taken for granted.
The bishop spoke at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka during a victory thanksgiving mass organised in honour of APGA, Anambra State chapter.
He said APGA’s feat in the last governorship election was destined by God.
Ezeokafor said: “Your victorious outing in the last governorship election was made possible by God. It was a hard-fought victory.
“We all witnessed what happened before the election. I’m not a card carrying member of any party, but I watch and monitor political proceedings.
“The last governorship election was not easy for APGA. Ndi Anambra voted because of what they believe the party has done over the years.
“We want this to continue. You must continue to provide dividends of democracy for the people. Expectations are high.”
The cleric enjoined the party hierarchy to work for the good of the people, adding that the electorate voted for them to improve on their good work.
The Chairman of the party in the state, Sir Norbert Obi, thanked the bishop for the advice and encouragement.
He said the party would continue to give quality leadership.
