As more evidence continue to emerge on the alleged involvement of suspended Deputy Commissioners of Police, DCP Abba Kyari in a drug deal, two members of the drug cartel have made new revelations on the involvement of NDLEA officials in aiding their activities.
In the new development, the suspects, 29-year-old Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and 45-year-old Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwame alleged that the NDLEA officials are major players in helping drug cartels have hitch free passage through the airports.
One of the suspects said, “Before we get to airport, the person that send us will send our picture to NDLEA, so when we get to their point they will know that we are the people then they will clear us.”
Asked if the NDLEA staff conduct any search on them, he said, no, not properly. They open the bag and just cover it again before letting us go. If they see anything they will just close it because they know we are coming.”
In past last few days, the Nigerian Police force and NDLEA have engaged in heated altercation regarding who are the real business partners with the drug barons.
Truthlive.net had reported that the Nigerian Police had called on NDLEA to investigate its personnels as it insinuated that officers of the agency are the real culprits in the matter.
The police said its investigation revealed that the international drug cartel have “strong ties” with some NDLEA officerst the Enugu airport.
Reacting to the allegation by the police, NDLEA’s spokesperson Femi Babalola said its agency will not spare anyone found complicit in the 25Kg cocaine deal while reiterating its commitment to evidence-based investigation.
With the evidences emerging, one is forces to asked who really is the culprit? Only time will tell.
