Tension surged in Kaduna State amid the conduct of the local government elections, as reports emerged of youth resisting what they deemed an attempt to rig the process in favor of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Witnesses reported heavy gunfire from police officers in various parts of the state, aimed at dispersing angry residents who were reacting to the actions of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM).
The commission’s refusal to distribute result sheets ignited frustration among the populace, leading to clashes between protesters and law enforcement.
The unrest was notably pronounced in Zaria Local Government Area, where an agent of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was reportedly apprehended with a pre-prepared result sheet, further igniting fears of electoral malpractice.
