How Direct Primary May Favour Atiku’s Perceived Presidential Ambition

Recently, the National House of Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria made an amendment to the Electoral Act of the country, making it compulsory, the use of Direct Primaries by all political parties inn the course of nominating candidates for all elective position in the future general elections.

Remarkably, many political gladiators, politicians, and concerned citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have been joining discussions into whether the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be, holistically, zoned to the South or the Northern parts of the country.

However, according to the standing resolution by the leaders of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the presidential ticket of the party has been said to be thrown open to all the six geopolitical zones in the country.

 

Considerably, if the main opposition party in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), should go by this resolution, and the amendment made to the Electoral Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which mandate every political party in the country to adopt Direct Primaries, in the course of picking candidates for the future elections in the country, the chances of the former vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to succeed with his perceived presidential ambition may be considered to be higher than others.

Sincerely, this could be so because of the enormous popularity of former vice president Atiku Abubakar across the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.

Certainly, the political popularity of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar among the ordinary members and leaders of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), across the 774 Local Government Areas in the Federal Republic of Nigeria could be considered enough to favor his perceived presidential ambition, if the Direct Primary is assented to by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
