Twenty-eight (28) of the over 120 students abducted from the Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have regained freedom.
It was gathered that the students were found inside the Tsoho Gaya Forest in Chikun Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Sunday, July 25, 2021.
The Kaduna state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN), Joseph Hayab, confirmed their release to TheCable on Sunday.
However, it is not clear if the bandits released them after ransom was paid or if they were rescued by security operatives or escaped by themselves.
Three of the students were rescued by police operatives some days ago at a location also in Chikun Local Government Area and were later taken to a police medical facility for medical checks.
The Street Journal had reported that Abraham Aniya, one of the abducted students, was rescued by security operatives alongside two other victims who were kidnapped by bandits some days ago along Kaduna-Kachia road.
Mohammed Jalige, the public relations officer of Kaduna police command, had said, “On July 12, at about 1540hrs, operatives of the command, alongside Civilian JTF on routine rescue patrol around the forest of Tsohon Gaya village, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State, stumbled on three kidnapped victims roaming the bush, extremely exhausted and weak.”
Two other students escaped on July 20 when they were tasked to go and fetch firewood from a nearby forest.
