Abure led the LP into poor outings during the general election.Abure as the National Chairman of the LP was not in firm control of the LP.He was only busy making his money using his office and his cronies.LP was unable to record unprecedented victories in the recently-concluded general election because of poor leadership and management by the Abure-led National Working Committee.
The imbroglio between the LP and Support Groups led to the sidelining of the SGs who were ready to give our Principal,Peter Obi and other LP candidates victory in the polls.Leaders of the SGs were not carried along in the scheme of things by the LP.Abure was in the know of all these happenings,but he rather allowed the SGs to be short-changed,thereby making many of the teeming supporters of the LP irrelevant before the party.The State Chapters of the LP glaringly refused to accept the Letter of Recognition from the SG Leaders so as not to make provision of fundings for their activities.I witnessed that in my Support Group whereby LP state chairmen could not accommodate our states executive members to give them sense of belonging.This issue has been reported to Abure-led NWC several times,but he refused to work on it.
In addition,campaign funds were being managed by the PCC members and the LP without inclusion of the SGs that were on top of the campaign.Majoriry of the SGs leaders carried out their campaign activities through individual contributions from members and from their own hard-earned money on behalf of the LP candidates.It is now very disheartening to hear that the same Abure went about to suspend top members of the NWC for soliciting for funds from the wealthy lovers of Peter Obi to carry out their enormous duties.I know for sure that the Office of the National Youth Leader was more tasking than that of the Office of the National Chairman.The said Youth Leader,an ICT guru,was saddled with the responsibilities of SG mobilisation,organisation,registration and certification.How would he be able to carry out those activities with a token of 1m earmarked for his office by the National Chairman,Abure.Would 1m be able to settle the ICT consultants used for the job done by the National Youth Leader?We must speak the truth.
Almost 75 percent of the party agents who served during the general elections were not paid up till now as am writing this piece.SGs were used and dumped by the Abure-led NWC.Only the party agents mobilised by the LP and PCC were at least paid part of their funds by the party under the watch of Abure.As a party agent,and a State Coordinator of a Support Group,I was not even paid alongside my members.But funds were released for the exercise.
During campaign,in any state Peter Obi visited,SGs would mobilise their members,but the LP under Abure’s watch would decide not to even bring out money to convey the party faithfuls called supporters from the SGs to the venues.It is very bad,that is not how to manage a political party.For me,SGs were used by the LP to make money and carry out the party activities,but they were never compensated,rather Abure and his States Chairmen and members of the PCC squandered the campaign funds and came to tell the SGs that Peter Obi no dey give shii-shii.For me,Abure should be totally dismissed in the LP for his poor performance.
I discovered that all the SGs wasted their money in supporting the LP candidates,while the LP under Abure was feeding fat with funds meant for campaigns and election management.The SGs were used but were never included in the scheme of things by the party.Many top SGs leaders were in a mess now for wasting a lot of their hard-earned money in support of the LP and its candidates.Abure employed his stooges who were not experienced party leaders to run the LP aground.I was aware that many SGs members and leaders defected to the opposition parties when they were abandoned by the LP led by Barr.Abure.Majority,being angry about the way Abure ran the party,decided to work for the opposition political parties against the LP.Abure starved the LP Presidential Campaigns of funds and micro-manage the movement with his men Friday as against the core party faithfuls.We witnessed strange names and faces managing the LP during and before election.There was no coordination of activities.There was no proper channel of flow of campaign funds and so on.
In short,Abure was the worst party National Chairman in the history of Nigeria.If with the popularity of Peter Obi in Nigeria,the LP ended up struggling to get one state,that is to tell you about the stewardship of Barr.Abure as the National Chairman of the LP.He should leave the stage and be expelled by the party for running the party aground.I am of the opinion that if Abure remains in the helm of affairs,a good number of the SGs would get dissolved and decamp to other parties.In short,SGs were unfairly treated by the LP under Abure’s watch.
Let us stand for the present NWC under Alhaji Lamidi Apapa.The current team are the ones ready to take LP to the promised land.
