Reactions continue to trail the invasion of the Nigeria Defense Academy (NDA), Kaduna by bandits on Tuesday, 24th August 2021.
It will be recalled that unknown gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday, breached the security of the NDA, killed two military officers and escaped into the bush with another abducted officer.
Veteran Nigerian artist, John Asiemo popularly known as Daddy Showkey has described the incident as a “shame and disgrace to Nigeria.”
Daddy Showkey who took to the social media platform Instagram to vent his frustration went on to say that the unknown gunmen can no longer be called bandits. He branded them as mercenaries, who are “coming to take over our land.”
In his words, “Shame and disgrace to Nigeria, our pride.The Nigeria Defense Academy was attacked, you people are still calling these people bandits, these people are not bandits but mercenaries, mercenaries,
“We should start calling these people the right thing, they are mercenaries that are coming to take over our land.”
Similarly, hip-hop artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem reacted to the attack by questioning what the fate of Igbo citizens would be like if the NDA was located in any of the southeastern states.
According to him, the Nigerian Army would have been burning villages and killing the Igbo people.
In his word, which he posted on his Instagram account, he wrote, “Let’s assume NDA is located in any of the Igbo states and such attack took place. By now, the Army will be burning down Igbo villages and killing Igbo’s.”
In the same vein, popular Instagram skit maker, content creator, and social media influencer, Debo Adebayo, popularly called Mr. Macaroni, in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter account to express his concern and displeasure over the attack.
He described the general situation of the country as exhausting, heartbreaking while decrying the level of incompetence by the present administration from which he emphasized the vice president cannot be excluded, maintaining that he is the number two citizen of the country and as such has the power to “make things work.”
In his words, “The invasion, of the NDA is a pointer to how emboldened bandits and terrorists have become in our country. It is also a reality check. If the NDA can be attacked and military men kidnapped, then who is safe in Nigeria?”
He went further to narrate how he watches videos of President Buhari “heavily” criticizing the administration of the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan on security and “rode into office as per the savior” but even as a General has failed to secure lives and properties.
Mr. Macaroni also criticized state governors as they turn blind eyes to the sufferings of the people especially the youths who he said gets “harassed, threatened, beaten and even killed by security agents every now and then…”
In his concluding tweet, he emphasized that government must do better, he wrote, “Saying this for the last time for emphasis!!! The present government is a failure and the Vice-President is not an exception!
“Terrorists are being pampered and forgiven while innocent citizens are being targeted, threatened, and even killed. The govt must do better!!!”
