Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant Bukola Saraki has suggested that Nigeria’s problems will likely continue or get worse if he is not elected president in 2023.
But to have a chance in the 2023 presidential election, the former Kwara governor needs to clinch the PDP presidential ticket.
Mr Saraki who met with PDP party delegates on Monday night in Abuja stressed the dire situation Nigeria is in. He told the delegates that Nigerians could not “just choose anybody” as president.
“If we don’t choose the right person, God forbid, what will happen to Nigeria?” he said. “We need a president that respects everyone. I have shown that when I was chairman of the governors’ forum.”
He urged the party delegates to rate all the presidential aspirants by their capacity to unite Nigeria, attract investment and ability to solve insecurity as he touted his credentials.
“I understand business, I know how (the) government works because I have been a governor for eight years. I know how the legislature operates. There is nobody with my records,” Mr Saraki declared.
According to the former Senate president, Nigeria needs a leader like him who is bold and courageous in taking decisions.
The PDP presidential aspirant also vowed to explore technology to make Abuja a well-secure city. He promised to provide non-stop 24-hour security coverage to Abuja residents.
“When you make me president, I will ensure with technology that anywhere here in Abuja is covered, and we can see what is going on, and people will be safe,” Mr Saraki pledged.
Mr Saraki also promised to provide 500,000 housing units every year as president.
