The recent inspection of a site of a proposed airport in Edo North by NCCA only resurrected in my mind similar pictures of Chinese inspection of much advertised but now abandoned proposed Gelegele Port.
Another white elephant project fated for the Waterloo. ! That’s what I am seeing in the proposed airport which faces the prospects of being abandoned .
Indeed, if it was found necessary to construct another airport in Edo, Obaseki should have started it in his first term to be assured of its completion.
With just a little above 3 years to exit office and dwindling resources, there is no assurance that the project will be completed during the life of his administration. There is also no assurance that his successor will see it as a priority project.
Outside this, what is the economic and commercial value of another Airport in Edo? Why pursuing elephant project in a State whose roads are in terribly and disgustingly bad shape and therefore crying and yawning for attention.; where many schools are dilapidated and pupils have no chairs to sit on.
My advice is that the Governor should concentrate on urban renewal and construction of rural roads many of which are cut off from the cities. That would be better appreciated.
