Yesterday, being 4th of February, 2022, a PDP LGA excos meeting was supposed to be held in the Party’s secretariat at Igarra, the LGA Headquarters, where the issues of ongoing peace within the party, the INEC registration and other sundry issues were supposed to be discussed. On getting there this morning for preparation, it was found by the PDP LGA chairman, Prince Ogunubi and others to be padlocked by an unknown subject. The police DPO and Area Commandant were immediately contacted by stakeholders including the National leader, Engr. Fred Attah, of the party in Akoko-Edo and the PDP LGA chairman. On getting to the secretariat, the police chief told the PDP LGA chairman he is afraid the meeting cannot hold for security reasons, that he was surprised this morning when one Adjoto Kabiru, who it is said to be interested in contesting for the position of the House of Reps in the LGA and a member of the New PDP, called him this morning and said the Governor, Godwin Obaseki, did not sanction the meeting hence it should not hold.
Engr. Fred Attah called the State Chairman of the Party, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, who was shocked and sad over the development All. All efforts to reach the governor were abortive as to ascertain if he directed such an individual to stop the meeting of PDP in Akoko-Edo at anytime. However, the Chairman said at no time him nor the governor gave such second-hand directive to stop members anywhere in the state from carrying out their constitutional duties. He promised to get to the bottom of the matter.
Efforts to reach the Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, who is one of the leaders of the Party in Edo North are underway. These kinds of illegalities using the name of the governor capable breaching peace cannot be tolerated in the state.
There are several questions that need answers on this matter; is it that the said application of peace ongoing in PDP is a smokescreen? Is it that the governor’s name can be used directly by the said Adjoto Kabiru to stop members from exercising their legal rights to freely assemble if he actually didn’t say so? If he did, which we doubt, can the governor, who is supposed to be the custodian of the constitution of the state be using his offices to mount illegalities under any guise?
The Party in Akoko-Edo has reached the State Chairman of the Party as to help reach the governor; Kabiru Adjoto should be told that the violence he was known for in APC cannot be brought to PDP that is capable of repelling all his actions. He cannot arrogate to himself powers he doesn’t have just because he is close to the governor. He has no monopoly of violent conduct even when the PDP members in Akoko-Edo are known for being law-abiding. A word is enough for the wise.
