A top police officer attached to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi is dead.
The officer was reported to have committed suicide at his home in Kagio, central Kenya.
According to the police, Donfan Wanyaga died after hanging himself inside his house after threatening to take away his life.
His wife’s effort to reach out to neighbours did not bear fruit.
“His wife called us saying her husband wanted to commit suicide unfortunately he killed himself before we arrived,” said one of the neighbours.
Neighbours described the deceased as an amiable person. It is alleged he left a suicide note urging his wife to give his phone to his son.
He has left behind his widow and two children.
On Monday, July 26, Kenya National Police Service) released a report indicating that 483 Kenyans have committed suicide in three months.
The report linked the growing cases of suicides in the country to mental health issues.
The youngest person reported to have committed suicide during the period was nine years, while the oldest was aged 76.
