When police Inspector Efemena George Ishiaka pleaded with his colleagues to release a thuggy neighbour who threatened her life, she didn’t know that would open the door to her death.
Inspector Efemena, 40, was murdered by Collins Anthony, a neighbour who had threatened to kill her earlier.
Standard Gazette had reported how Collins led his two gang members on 21 July to attack the Inspector after he had signed an undertaking claiming he didn’t mean his earlier threats.
The female Inspector recently moved in with her lover at No 152, Uselu-Lagos Road in Benin City, where he crossed paths with Collins.
On 11 June, Inspector Efemena reported a case of assault against Collings after a fallout over a roster – the responsibility of sweeping, cleaning the kitchen and washing the toilet – and the female Inspector started receiving threat messages from Collins, which led to his first arrest.
After being granted bail, Collins, who worked inside the Uselu market as a pepper grinding machine operator,
led two other suspects believed to be members of a secret cult in the state and attacked Inspector Efe at home, stabbing her multiple times with her kitchen knife.
Realizing his crime, he escaped to Okede, Emu, in Esan South East Local government area of Edo State, where he was eventually arrested and transferred to the homicide department of the Edo State police command.
