The Edo State Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and frontline National Vice Chairmanship hopeful of the Party in the South-South geo-political Zone, Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, has decried the high level of insecurity in Edo state.
He made the assertion yesterday in Benin City while reacting to the recent Uromi banks robbery incident.
Mr. Tenebe, said inspite of the humongous allocation said to be in the region of 700 Million Naira Monthly Security vote collected by the state Governor there is nothing on ground to justify it.
His Words ” You will recall that within last month alone,amidst other several cases of kidnappings, the Edo State Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association Of Nigeria (IPMAN) Alhaji Abdul-Hamid aka Baba petrol was Kidnapped in front of his house in Jattu in Etsako West Local Government and his driver and another of his staff were killed in the process. Just last week, a bank robbery incident that had the characteristics of a well planned and co-ordinated attacks took place in Uromi town where several lives were lost and money carted away. It is absurd and unfortunate that State government officials take pride in visiting and snapping photographs at the Scenes as if in a rendezvous,without being proactive with a sound Security architecture that would boost the confidence of the citizenry about the protection of their lives and property”
While describing the action of the robbers as barbaric and archaic, the National Vice Chairmanship Aspirant lambasted the State Government led by Mr. Godwin Obaseki over their inertia and deliberate silence on the incidents that claimed multiple lives.
He said that the state has been in no-movement posture since the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki. He asked” what do you expect of a Governor that belongs to no party?”
The Edo APC Chieftain condemned the State Government for turning a blind eye to the security of the citizens of the State and warned that if urgent steps are not taken,the People will be living in perpetual fear and agony.
While Commiserating with the families of the victims and the people of Uromi, Mr. Tenebe urged the State Governor to be alive to his responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the people, a responsibility that is supposedly sacrosanct.
