Residents of Taraba State have been urged to opt for politicians who are willing to inject fresh ideas into governance.
A group, Taraba Must Progress Movement, made the call on Sunday during an interactive session with the media in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.
Led by its chairman, Dr Joshua Garba, the group pleaded with the electorates to make judicious use of their permanent voter’s cards in ensuring that fresh people emerged as leaders in the forthcoming election.
The group, while noting that old politicians in the State have failed over the years, said “it is time for Tarabans to wake up and change those who have been in the corridors of power since 1999.
“They have in the last 23 years served the State but where do we find ourselves? These politicians are the problem of Taraba State, they have lived all their lives on our State resources, they have accumulated wealth for themselves and brought poverty upon the State and its people.”
Wondering why such a group of politicians should still be “planning to continue in 2023”, they urged the people “to rise and stop them.”
The group further stressed that Taraba “needs a new crop of leaders, especially in the political arena”, adding that “2023 elections provide another opportunity, and another expectation by our people, as they need strategic leaders who can set a new direction for the state, mobilise the resources of the State, mobilize the people and ensure that the challenges that have hampered the development of Taraba State are overcome.”
