This controversial quote by the great Nigerian Author, Novelist, Professor and Poet simply tells us that unless the colonised have their own stories, their own historians, their own side represented, the history of colonisation will always glorify the colonists.
Of recent, there have been concerted efforts by some session of the media to malign, defame and demarket Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu all in a bid to truncate his presidential ambition which is a fundamental right of the former Lagos State Governor.
It is quite pathetic that at the altar of politics Tinubu’s reputation is at stake because of pettiness and bitterness, if left unchecked the Yoruba race would have one of their best leaders ever to be tagged as a SCUM as these detractors would want to paint the Jagaban.
A characteristic feature that no geo-political zone would ever allow any of its leaders to be tagged as.
“Until the Lion tells the story, the hunter will always be the hero.” Today it is quite obvious that the majority of the Yoruba monarchs are solidly behind Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who happens to be the political leader of the Yoruba race today.
Let us drop Asiwaju’s rumoured aspiration aside, there is no active politician today in the South-West that does not give kudos to the Jagaban irrespective of the political party the leader belongs to.
Tinubu has been consistently known for fighting for democracy in the context of a united indivisible Nigeria where all tribes and creed are of the same equality.
Having grown into the shoes of a National Leader the APC chieftain must act as one who carries a big burden of leadership on his shoulders and must be an ICON to all regions.
Tinubu is a national statesman and not an ethnic or tribal warlord. His leadership, wisdom and integrity is a source of inspiration to many across the Nation, there is no way the Yoruba monarchs who are the custodians of the tradition of their people would sit back and watch their Star Boy get ridiculed all on the altar of petty politics.
The last three months have practically seen all the Yoruba monarchs in the South-West either visit Tinubu, speak out in support or endorse his presidential ambition.
No single day passes by without seeing headlines like, Alaafin of Oyo pays a private visit to Tinubu, Oluwo of Iwo says Tinubu qualified to succeed Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu pays obeisance to the Ooni of Ife,”…I Doubt If There Would Be Any One To Contest Against Tinubu….”-Deji of Akure, The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye makes case for Tinubu 2023 presidency etc…
The list is actually endless. Now, this is no fluke, the South-West leaders are not fools , they appreciate the sacrifices that Tinubu has rendered to the region that makes it a pacesetter today.
Each historian must tell their own story if not history would be distorted.
Wonderless as more and more traditional rulers from the South-West would keep throwing their open support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
