Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to ensure the completion of the Benin-Abraka Road, assuring residents of Orhionmwon South that his administration would not allow the prolonged suffering caused by the deplorable condition of the road to continue.
Governor Okpebholo gave the assurance while addressing party members, unit leaders and supporters during his visit to Ugo in Orhionmwon South Local Government Area.
The Governor acknowledged the hardship experienced by residents, motorists and commuters who regularly use the Benin-Abraka Road, saying the condition of the road remained a major concern to the people.
According to him, the project had been awarded before the commencement of his administration, with the road divided into sections and handled by different contractors. He noted that while one contractor had made substantial progress on its section, the other section had remained largely unattended.
The Governor said his administration was determined to take decisive action to ensure that the failed section of the road was addressed.
“Your pain is my pain. We are here to solve Edo problems. We are doing everything possible to address the challenges of our roads. We are not here because of roads alone, but since you have spoken loudly about this road, we will take action and fix it,” he said.
Okpebholo further assured the people that his administration would not abandon projects that directly affect the welfare and economic activities of Edo residents.
Okpebholo also used the occasion to highlight his administration’s relationship with the Federal Government, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that cooperation between the state and federal governments was important for attracting and implementing development projects in Edo State.
He urged the people to continue supporting his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his government had embarked on interventions in areas including roads, education and security.
The Governor also appealed to the people to support APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, including Hon. Ogbeide Ihama for Edo South Senatorial District, Hon. Billy Osawaru for the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, and Hon. Etinosa Odiase for the State House of Assembly.
He said the support of the people would enable the government to work with representatives at the National Assembly and State House of Assembly to advance development across Edo State.
Also speaking, Edo State APC Chairman, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, and Deputy State Chairman, Hon. Sylvester Aigboboh, urged party members and supporters to remain united and continue to support the APC administration.
The party leaders stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation and unity in strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Other leaders and stakeholders from Orhionmwon appreciated Governor Okpebholo for what they described as his administration’s interventions in the local government, including appointments given to indigenes of the area and ongoing development projects.
They commended the Governor for listening to the concerns of the people and called for continued attention to infrastructure and other pressing needs of communities across Orhionmwon.
