Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State was grounded on Wednesday following the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB).
IPOB in a statement announced a sit-at-home exercise for Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 26 when its Leader Nnamdi Kanu, would be appearing in court for the two days.
All the banks in the city were on lock when The Nation monitored the exercise.
However, Automated Teller Machines(ATMs) were dispensing cash to customers who visited the banks
Also, students and teachers stayed at home with some of them were seen playing around on the streets.
Shops at the Margaret Umahi International Market Abakaliki and other shops did not open
The Judiciary Headquarters near the Old Government House was also under lock even as other government offices remained shut.
Streets and major roads remained scanty with few cars , commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators in operation.
Security agencies were seen moving around the city in a long convoy.
